Projects & Initiatives

Siku Zote

Founder and Organizer March 2025 – Present

Pepita founded Siku Zote, delivering poetry workshops for young girls in Tanzanian orphanages. The workshops create a space for participants to express their experiences of their menstrual cycles through poetry, build understanding of menstrual health, and break stigma of menstruation. This initiative will integrate the Menstrual Health Project’s educational toolkits translated into Swahili to increase menstrual health awareness.

Shasha Choral Project

Shasha Choral Project

Poet 2025 - 2026

Pepita’s poem “The Time is Now” — originally commissioned and performed at The SDG Summit Curtain Raiser Event hosted by the United Nations Foundation, 16 September 2023 — was selected for the Shasha Choral Project and used to compose choral music. The Shasha Choral Project is an ambitious cross-cultural project that brings together emerging African composers and contemporary African poets to create new musical works for voice.
